First Launch Setup

Initial Launch Process:

1. Locate the Launcher: Find Launch OffGrid AI ToolKit.exe in the USB root folder
2. Security Prompt: Click "Yes" when Windows asks for permission. You will see "OffGrid AI ToolKit" as a DigiCert Verified Publisher — this certification means our software has been authenticated and verified as legitimate, protecting you from malware or imposters
3. Loading Screen: Wait 3–5 seconds while AI models load
4. Terms & Conditions: Review and accept the terms (one-time only)
5. Start Using: Click "START USING OFFGRID AI" button
6. Dashboard Opens: The main interface opens in the Electron app window

The Command Center is the most powerful feature in the OffGrid AI ToolKit ecosystem. Instead of asking one AI, it queries four frontier models simultaneously, runs an anonymous peer review, and synthesizes the best answer into a single highly accurate response.

Image Studio Tiers 2 & 3

The Image Studio lets you generate custom AI images directly from text prompts. Create field guides, diagrams, reference illustrations, maps, or any visual content you need — all saved directly to your Knowledge Base for offline access.

Knowledge Base

The Knowledge Base is the bridge between your online research and your offline USB. Build up a library of conversations, images, and research while you are connected — then access everything offline when the internet is gone.

How It Works:

1. While online, save any conversation or image to your Knowledge Base using the Save to Knowledge Base button
2. Your saved content syncs to a folder on your USB drive
3. When you go offline, open the USB and access everything you saved
4. Pick up the same conversation, images and all, completely offline

AI Model Selection Guide

Offline Models (USB):

The model selector dropdown appears at the bottom of your chat interface. You can switch models anytime during a session.

Online Models (Command Center — Tiers 2 & 3):

The Command Center queries all four frontier models simultaneously. You do not need to choose — the AI Council selects the best answer automatically.

Mobile Access Setup

Access from Your Phone or Tablet:

Once the USB launcher is running on your Windows PC, any device on the same WiFi network can access the OffGrid AI interface through a browser — no app download required.

Setup Steps:

1. Launch the USB on your Windows PC as normal
2. One-time firewall setup: Run the firewall configuration script included on the USB (only required once)
3. Scan the QR code shown in the top-right corner of the dashboard
4. Or enter the IP address manually on your mobile browser
5. The full interface loads on your phone — camera capture, image upload, and all features work

Starlink Mini Integration

The OffGrid AI ToolKit pairs exceptionally well with Starlink Mini for field deployments where you want both portable satellite internet and offline AI capability.

The Combination:

• Use Starlink Mini for internet connectivity in remote locations
• Access the Command Center and Image Studio via satellite when connected
• Build up your Knowledge Base with research and references

Desktop Usage:

1. Click the camera icon in the chat input
2. Select or capture an image

Troubleshooting

Common Issues & Solutions:

"Disconnected" Status

• Verify the launcher is still running
• Check that antivirus is not blocking the app
• Restart the launcher if needed

Slow Performance

• Switch to a smaller model in the dropdown
• Close other programs
• Check available RAM in Task Manager
• Ensure USB is in a USB 3.0+ port

Mobile Cannot Connect

1. Confirm firewall setup was completed
2. Make sure both devices are on the same WiFi
3. Try manual IP entry
4. Disable VPN if active

Processes Still Running

If you cannot restart the launcher:

1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc)
2. Look for and end these OffGrid AI ToolKit processes:
   • OffGrid AI ToolKit (may appear multiple times)
   • OffGrid AI ToolKit - Multimodal Assistant
   • Caddy
3. Once all processes are ended, restart the launcher

Model Will Not Load

• Check available RAM
• Try a smaller model first
• Restart the computer if needed

Command Center Not Responding

• Check your internet connection
• Verify your session limit has not been reached for the month
• Try refreshing the browser
• Contact support if the issue persists

Tips for Success

Be Patient with Offline Models

This is a powerful solution, but offline models with billions of parameters require significant processing power. Response times vary by model and hardware. You are running AI that usually lives in the cloud, entirely on your own device.

Getting Better Responses:

1. Be Specific — include context and examples
2. Use Templates — for example "Format as a table..."
3. Chain Prompts — break complex tasks into steps
4. Specify Length — "In 100 words" or "Detailed analysis"
5. Set Tone — "Explain simply" or "Professional report"

Performance Optimization:

• Start with the 4b model, move up only when needed
• Clear chat periodically for long sessions
• Close unnecessary programs
• Use USB 3.0+ ports only
